【不退転の守護神（毘沙門天）｜A3ジークレー額装作品】
この作品は、私自身が「自分の道は、自分で歩まなければならない」と強く思い定めたとき、その決意を絵にしたものです。
毘沙門天は、北方を守護する天部の神。四天王のなかで最も厳しい方角に立ち、一歩も退くことなく守り抜く神とされています。
誰かに頼りたくなる弱さは、誰の心にもあります。けれど、志した道をまっすぐ歩くためには、自分の心にひとつ、厳しさを持っていたい。そう考えたとき、私を厳しく導いてくれる先生のような存在として、毘沙門天を描きました。
毘沙門天の表情は、とても厳しい。けれどその厳しさは、罰するためのものではありません。「何のために厳しいのか」を、見る人がいつも確かめられるように——自分を戒め、反省し、謙虚に、一歩ずつ前へ進むために描いた厳しさです。
背後の龍は、八の字を描いています。厳しさの先には必ず豊かさと繁栄がある。それを乗り越えてほしいという願いを込めました。毘沙門天は、財宝と豊かさの神でもあります。厳しさのその先に、実りがある。
足下に踏むのは餓鬼——満たされることを知らない、貪りの心です。際限のない欲を踏みしめ、目標を定めたら勝ち抜く。ぶれず、曲げず、退かず。
受験や試験、大きな困難に立ち向かう方に。この絵の前に立てば、いつでも自分の心を奮い立たせ、「自分の道は正しい」と確かめられる。そんな、帰ってこられる場所として、そばに置いていただけたら幸いです。

Bishamonten (Vaishravana) - Guardian of Unyielding Resolve

I painted this when I had settled something in myself: that my road is mine to walk, and no one else can walk it for me. This piece is that resolve, put down in an image.
Bishamonten guards the northern quarter. He is the deity who stands at the hardest side of the compass and does not give ground.
The wish to lean on someone lives in every heart. But to walk a chosen road straight, I wanted to keep one hard thing inside me. When I thought about what that would look like, I painted Bishamonten, the figure of a teacher who holds you to a standard without softening it.
His expression is severe. But the severity is not there to punish. It is there so that whoever stands before it can keep asking what the severity is for. I painted it as the kind of hardness that makes a person check themselves, reflect, stay humble, and take one more step forward.
Behind him, the dragon traces a figure eight. Past severity there is always abundance, always flourishing. I put into that shape my wish that you come through to the other side. Bishamonten is also the deity of treasure and abundance. Beyond the hardness, there is a harvest.
Underfoot he treads a hungry ghost: the grasping mind that never learns to be satisfied. Press down on desire that knows no limit. Fix your aim and see it through. Do not waver. Do not bend. Do not retreat.
For anyone facing an examination, a trial, or a large difficulty. Stand in front of this painting and you can rouse your own heart again, and confirm that the road you are on is the right one. If it becomes a place you can return to, kept close at hand, that would be enough.

◆ Giclee printing
The original artwork is printed with archival pigment inks using the giclee process: 9 to 12 inks, capable of holding gradations, fabric patterns and feather detail that ordinary printing flattens out. It is the method used for reproducing fine art and photographic work, valued for both color fidelity and longevity.
Printed on either an HP DesignJet Z9+ PS (B0) or an Epson SureColor SC-P9550, selected per piece according to the artwork and the paper used.
