この作品は、四天王を描き進めてきた締めくくりとして、最後に描いた一尊です。
広目天は、西方を守護する天部の神。すべてを見通す「広い眼」を持ち、常にあらゆるものを見渡して、真実を見抜く智慧を人々に授けるとされています。右手に筆、左手に巻物を持ち、世の中と人の営みを静かに観察し、記録する——そんな姿で知られる、智慧の神です。
私がこの神に重ねたのは、「智慧を蓄え、持つことの大切さ」です。机に向かって本を読むことだけが学びではない。人との関わりの中で、良いことも、そうでないことも、すべてが知恵になっていく——広目天は、そんな人生そのものが学びであることを、静かに説いてくれているように思います。
毘沙門天の厳しさ、増長天の成長、持国天の秩序、そして広目天の智慧。四天王がすべて揃うと、東西南北の四方から、静かに自分を見つめる視線が生まれます。部屋の四隅に掛ければ、どの方角を向いても、守護と戒めに囲まれる。一人ひとりの神の導きによって自らを律し、行きたい場所へまっすぐ歩んでいく——目標に向かう方の、心の支えになれば幸いです。

Komokuten (Virupaksha) - Guardian of Wisdom
A4 Giclee Print, Framed
This is the last of the Four Heavenly Kings (Shitenno) I painted - the piece that closed the series.
Komokuten guards the western quarter. His name means "wide-seeing eyes." He watches over all things and grants people the wisdom to perceive what is true. He is shown holding a brush in his right hand and a scroll in his left: quietly observing the world and the lives lived in it, and writing down what he sees.
What I wanted to hold in this figure is the worth of gathering wisdom. Learning is not only what happens at a desk with a book open. Everything that passes between us and other people, the good and the difficult alike, becomes knowledge in the end. Komokuten seems to say, without raising his voice, that a life itself is the study.
Bishamonten's severity. Zochoten's growth. Jikokuten's order. And Komokuten's wisdom. When all four are present, a gaze rises from the four directions and settles on you. Hung in the four corners of a room, whichever way you turn, you stand inside their watch. May it steady anyone walking toward something they have set their heart on.
That said, this work guarantees no power and makes no religious claim. I would be glad if you simply received it as a piece that makes you sit a little straighter when it is near.

Drawn entirely by hand on iPad, from first composition to final detail. This is an original digital painting by the artist. It is not AI-generated.
◆ Giclee printing
The original artwork is printed with archival pigment inks using the giclee process: 9 to 12 inks, capable of holding gradations, fabric patterns and feather detail that ordinary printing flattens out. It is the method used for reproducing fine art and photographic work, valued for both color fidelity and longevity.
Printed on either an HP DesignJet Z9+ PS (B0) or an Epson SureColor SC-P9550, selected per piece according to the artwork and the paper used.

A gold dessin frame, chosen to meet the color of the work. The glazing is UV-cut acrylic, blocking approximately 97% of ultraviolet light to slow fading and color shift.
Longevity depends on where the piece is kept. Light, temperature and humidity all play a part.
